Priyanka Gandhi, Robert Vadra visit Hyderabad for son’s eye treatment
Congress’s star campaigner in Uttar Pradesh elections Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with her businessman-husband Robert Vadra, paid a brief visit to Hyderabad on Saturday to get their son Raihan treated for an eye-injury.
Raihan (16) received serious injury to one his eyes after being hit by a ball while playing cricket in his school last week.
He was brought to the city’s L V Prasad Eye Hospital for a second opinion after being treated initially at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi.
She flew down to the city around 10.30am, taking some time off from the campaigning in assembly segments in Amethi, represented by her brother and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha.
“Yes, the Vadras were in our hospital for a couple of hours. A team of three doctors examined Raihan and treated him. However, there was no surgical procedure involved in the treatment. He will have to undergo follow-up treatment in Delhi,” hospital spokesman Sam Balasubrahmanyam told Hindustan Times.
He, however, did not elaborate on the gravity of the injury. “I cannot say how serious it is. But it was substantial since he was hit by a cricket ball,” he said without disclosing whether it was on the right or left eye.
Sam said chairman of the hospital Dr Gullapalli N Rao is very close to Gandhi family and is also advising Rahul Gandhi on some projects in Delhi.
“After the incident, Priyanka had consulted him immediately and on his advice, she brought her son to our hospital for a second opinion,” the spokesperson said.
The Hyderabad police made elaborate security arrangements in and around the hospital in Banjara Hills. The local Congress leaders were informed about her trip, but were asked not to disturb her since it was a personal visit.
By afternoon, they returned to Delhi
