This TV Anchor Was Asked To Come Office In Underwear And Her Reply Made Us Salute Her (Video)
A STORY BY SAURABH DAS
When Faye D’Souza, the renowned Mirror Now Anchor was asked to wear underwear by a cleric, to be considered equal to men, she did not lose her temper. Rather, she gave a calm and fitting reply that stunned and silenced the cleric, once and for all. This is what the cleric, Yasoob Abbas said, “Underwear pehen ke aaye, tab mard aur aurat barabar ho jayenge.” (Come to work wearing underwear, if you want to be equal to men).
His comments came after she said that women have the right to wear anything they want and that no one else should decide what a woman should wear.
In a heavily animated debate, during the prime time Urban Debate session, where the participants were discussing the recent trolls directed towards Priyanka Chopra for exposing her legs while meeting with Narendra Modi, Fatima Sana Shaikh for wearing a Bikini during the holy month of Ramzan and Deepika Padukone for the sizzling photoshoot.
During the debate, Faye D’Souza expressed her opinion as well and said that she stands by Priyanka and Fatima because it is a woman’s choice and that they will make this choice on a daily basis!
Reacting to the cleric’s statement, Faye said, “Let me tell you Maulana ji, I have seen the likes of you and I am not afraid of you, I am not threatened by you, and most of all I am not rattled by you.”
She further said, “If you think you can rattle women while they are doing their job and they will run back into their kitchens, cover themselves up and leave the world for you to conquer, then I have news for you – we are not going anywhere. Yes, Maulanaji, this is a channel run by a woman – and no, this is not a woman that you can easily rattle.”
Being a woman in India means being constantly told what you should wear and how you should behave. This is something which has gone beyond just the households and workplaces, and reached the social media world where sometimes, trollers put forth their opinion in a sexist, hateful taste.
Though the debate has already ended, I would like to add my opinion here. Because I am too opinionated Maulanaji. Do you know Maulanaji, what’s the most difficult task in the world? It’s dealing with closed minds! When a mind is closed, how can you debate and discuss with that person? And even then if the debate takes place, it boils down to hitting your head on a wall. One can deal with a corrupt mind, one can deal with a cunning mind but with closed minds? Impossible! They talk about bizarre things like underwear when the debate gets heated. Nobody can understand a closed mind’s logic.
But we are not scared because we have women like Faye D’Souza. They can take care of such things, we are assured of that.
Coming back to Priyanka, Fatima and Deepika what they are doing and, wearing is none of your business. When they are not commenting on your dress sense, why should you comment on theirs? No, that should be best left to themselves.
Maulanaji, move beyond the underwear and start appreciating what a fantastic job women are doing everywhere, including protecting the nation on the border, so people like you could sit safely in your place and come up with bizarre, strange and weird logic in the name of tradition, culture, religion or whatever. Please, stop.
